Governance Model

Karat Dollar Foundation

The Foundation is the custodian of the KAD protocol, responsible for overseeing the resource basket, treasury management, and long-term strategic direction. It operates as a non-profit with a mandate to serve the African financial ecosystem.

Board of Directors

A diverse board comprising fintech leaders, economists, regulatory experts, and community representatives. The board sets policy, approves major protocol changes, and ensures regulatory compliance across all operating jurisdictions.

Community Governance

KAD holders can participate in governance by submitting proposals, voting on protocol changes, and shaping the roadmap. Community governance ensures the platform evolves according to the needs of its users.

Voting Process

From proposal to implementation, our governance process ensures every community voice is heard.

Propose

Any KAD holder with a minimum of 1,000 KAD can submit a governance proposal. Proposals include a title, detailed description, implementation plan, and expected impact on the ecosystem.

Discuss

A 14-day discussion period where the community reviews, debates, and suggests amendments to the proposal. Discussion happens on the governance forum and community channels.

Vote

A 7-day on-chain voting period where KAD holders cast their votes. Voting power is proportional to KAD holdings. A proposal passes with a simple majority and at least 10% quorum.

Implement

Approved proposals are implemented by the development team within the agreed timeline. Progress updates are published on the governance dashboard for community oversight.
